Dr. Michelle Corral, the President and Founder of Breath of the Spirit Ministries and your team;

Mr. Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin, the President of Heal the Planet Global Organisation and Host of the 3rd East Africa Fire and Anointing Pastors Conference;

The Distinguished Pastors and Delegations from outside Uganda;

The Ugandan Pastors and Delegations;

Ladies and Gentlemen.

I thank Dr. Michelle Corral, the President and Founder of Breath of the Spirit Ministries, for inviting me to attend the 3rd East Africa Fire and Anointing Conference. On behalf of the NRM Government and the People of Uganda, I welcome Dr. Corral and her distinguished delegation to Uganda – the Pearl of Africa. I wish you a peaceful stay in Uganda.

I also want to welcome our brothers and sisters who have travelled from outside Uganda to attend this Conference. Uganda is a hospitable and God-fearing country; therefore, I encourage you to explore Uganda’s beauty beyond Kampala.

Christianity is a new religion in our part of the world. It was not until the late 19th Century that the first groups of Christian missionaries started arriving in the Buganda Kingdom. The first group from England was sent by the Church Mission Society (CMS); they arrived here in 1877. They were followed by the White Fathers from France in 1879.

Therefore, you can clearly see that we are latecomers to the Christian faith. However, despite being latecomers, our people were quick to embrace and follow the good teachings of Christianity. Christianity brought enlightenment to our societies. Most people abandoned their old ways of living. They stopped believing in spirits (emandwa), gave up drinking alcohol and stopped sharing drinking pots, which spread diseases among people. They learnt to boil milk and water for drinking; and some Christian families managed to take their children to school, including girls.

Therefore, Christianity ushered in a positive transformation.

The latter Christian evangelists, such as Dr. Michelle Corral, have also ushered in great transformation in people’s lives through charity and uplift programmes. Dr. Corral’s ministry in Uganda and other parts of Africa exemplifies Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan.

Good neighborliness, as demonstrated in Jesus’ parable, transcends the narrow confines of tribe, religion, race, gender, class, etc. It is all-embracing; it does not discriminate against anyone. It is on account of this universal appeal of Jesus’ teaching that Christianity has been able to grow and spread to every corner of the world.

The NRM’s ideological outlook is similarly non-sectarian. Our agenda for spurring Uganda to modernity and prosperity is built on the foundation of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation and Democracy.

Within Uganda, we promote patriotism to consolidate unity and peaceful co-existence among our peoples. Outside Uganda, we advocate for East African and African cooperation and integration as a strategy for guaranteeing greater prosperity and security.

Therefore, I would like to thank Dr. Michelle Corral for making a commendable contribution to the prosperity and development of Uganda, East Africa and Africa.

I appeal to the Christians to continue working hard to build stable and prosperous homes. If you have spiritually seen the light, then you must do the same economically. You cannot see the spiritual light yet stay in economic darkness. You must push yourselves a little extra and improve your household incomes.

Finally, I once again thank Dr. Michelle Corral for inviting me to attend the Pastors’ Conference. I thank the organisers and, in particular, Dr. Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin for his efforts in organising and hosting the 3rd East Africa Fire and Anointing Conference in Kampala.
