Kampala–Gulu Highway Tragedy: A Wake-Up Call on Road Safety in Uganda

The death of 63 people in a midnight collision on the Kampala–Gulu Highway has been described as one of Uganda’s deadliest road disasters in recent years. The accident, which involved two buses and several other vehicles, has reignited debate over road safety, reckless driving, and weak enforcement of transport regulations.

Beyond the numbers, this tragedy is a painful reminder that no life should be lost under preventable circumstances. Yet, as has often been the case, authorities rush to announce investigations and pledge reforms, only for public attention to fade until the next catastrophe occurs.
